Description: Small Batch Coturnix Quail Hatching Eggs: Small family raised flock with a variety of colors including: Pharoah, Italian, Rosetta, Roux, Fee, Blau (Blue), and White (and many combinations thereof) as well as carrying the recessive celadon gene (blue eggs). We cull for health and temperament, our birds are pets as well production animals. We hatch eggs on a regular basis to check fertility and the health of our chicks to ensure the quality of our eggs. We specialize in small batches, which is awesome if you aren't ready to hatch three dozen quail at the moment! Incubation Tips: please make sure you have a separate (or multiple!) thermometer/hygrometers inside your incubator when hatching eggs, the built in function on most incubators is usually inaccurate and can cause major issues, especially for novice hatchers! You can get them for a very decent price on amazon, the ones used for reptile enclosures are great. Coturnix Quail have a 17 day incubation period, 45% humidity and 99.5F are recommended until Lockdown (day 14/15) when the humidity should be raised to 65% until hatching. Baby quail can be left in the incubator for 24 hours post-hatching but should then be moved to the brooder. You will also want to make sure you are using an automatic turner suitable for tiny quail eggs or hand turning 3-5 times daily. Shipped Eggs: shipping eggs is always a gamble, but it can also be a great way to diversify your flock. Extreme temperatures, shipping delays, and rough handling can cause problems with hatch rates or even wreck your eggs. Your eggs will be gathered fresh and shipped early in the week (to avoid sitting in a post office over the weekend!) so you may have to wait a few days before your eggs ship, but hopefully they will arrive in a timely fashion. We'll also include a few extra just in case! Please allow your eggs to sit at room temperature, in the open air, with the wide end up for twenty four hours before incubating. You may want to candle your eggs to check for cracks or other defects from shipping, we will check before packing and won't send any defective or questionable eggs. A hatch rate of 50% on shipped eggs is considered good by most people. Please take into consideration local weather conditions as well as those of the seller and everything in between when ordering eggs. We live in the upper midwest where winters are cold and summers are hot, snowstorms may slow the transit time. Eggs will be packed in foam and inside a box, but once they leave our custody, we can't guarantee how they are treated or how quickly they move. Our eggs will be shipped by the USPS with up to $100 in included insurance, so if your box arrives completely crushed, you can get your money refunded by the post office (but you'll need to photograph the damage and file a claim with them). We can't guarantee hatch rates but if you have a complete disaster, we'd be happy to trouble shoot with you and possibly ship more eggs (buyer must pay shipping) depending on the case.
