Description: This map is from Mitchell's New General Atlas published in Philadelphia 1871. Of historical interest on this map is a notation showing the route of the ship Investigator with Captain McClure and the discovery of the northwest passage. This was the same expedition that the HMS Resolute was lost in ice and later recovered. The maps from this atlas were engraved with very nice detail and hand colored. Most maps in this atlas are dated 1870 with a few being 1867. These were some of the most attractive maps of the time and are a really nice size for framing. Map measures 12" x 15". The title page and cover are not Included in this auction but are shown for verification purposes only. This is an original 152 year old map, not a copy or reprint.
