Description: Rare Chinese Ming dynasty gilt-lacquered bronze figure of a Bodhisattva seated on a lotus throne and holding a bowl with two lotus stems rising to the shoulders. Likely depicting Amitayus/Amitābha Buddha. Dating to the late 16th or early 17th century. Stylistically similar example in the collection of Ralph M. Chait Galleries has inscription and cyclical date corresponding to year 1593. Age-related wear and losses to the lacquered surface.
