Description: Original oil painting by Italian landscape painter Ugo Fioravanti (1876-?). Oil on canvas mounted on board depicting the Arch of Titus on the Via Sacra in the heart of Rome. It is hard to imagine that this view is from the city center of major European capital, I've added a photo of the view as seen today for comparison. The painting is signed in lower right and titled in Italian "Arco di Tito" and measures 15 1/2 x 11 3/4 inches. The painting varnish is in original antique condition showing surface grime and age toned varnish, otherwise excellent condition. The Arch of Titus was built by the Emperor Domitian in AD 81 and still stands today. It has served as the model for a number of more modern arches including the Arc de Triomphe in Paris. Ugo Fioravanti (1876-?) was an Italian landscape painter. Little biographical information is available. He was born in Padua and was inducted into L’Accademia delle Arti del Disegno in 1929, he was active with this association from 1926-1934. Fioravanti is known primarily by his surviving work, pastoral country landscapes and his more sought after Roman cityscapes.
