Very Scarce Antique Wood Shaft Kroydon Concave Face Blaster Sand Wedge

Description: This item is an antique vintage right-handed 35 1/2" wood shaft wedge. It is a smooth face, large headed, super wide sole, concave face niblick. Similar to the Walter Hagen concave sand wedge that Bobby Jones used. Made by Kroydon and it is their Blaster. This is only the second one of these I have seen. Concave wedges were banned by the USGA in 1931 and I suspect Kroydon was about to bring it to market to compete with the Walter Hagen concave sand wedge, but the USGA banned the concave faces and very few of these were ever sold. 50* loft and a very heavy F 4 swingweight. The head is clean and not all rusted. It does have the expected play nicks and dings. Please look at the many zoom pictures for a better idea of condition. The shaft is an old apparently original hickory. When I purchased this club, the shaft had been painted black. I removed the paint and then waxed the shaft. The shaft is straight, I see no cracks and it is tight at the hosel. All hickory shafted clubs should be re-set prior to play. The grip is an old long leather wrap that was on the shaft when I purchased the club. I waxed and whipped the grip as well. I believe this grip had an aluminum Kroydon butt cap installed on it originally. Nice looking and very scarce collectible wedge. If you are considering playing with this club all wooden shafted irons should be re-set prior to play. While I see no issues with the shaft (other than those mentioned above), I suggest that whipping be added just above the hosel to help prevent breakage. These wooden shafts often have hidden defects and are liable to break at any time. I do not guarantee wooden shafts against breakage when put into play. Never hit an old wooden shafted club off a driving range mat. Never hit an old wooden shafted wood with a hard range ball. Shipping in the US is calculated and based on a 3-pound box.
